Jeff Bauman
Locked eyes with the bomber right before the first explosion. Lost two legs and nearly his life. Here is federal prosecutor Al Chakravarty talking about the aftermath of that bomb in closing arguments for the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev:
“Bauman lost both of his legs. You could see him here with his body torn apart. And as he lay there with what remained of his legs in the air he thought very clearly, ‘We’re under attack.’ And when he later woke up in the hospital, he remembered the man who placed the bomb that blew him up. It was the defendant’s brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev.”
